Improve your English by immersing yourself in writing poetry!
Improve your word-recall, fluency, and ability to use English through this poetry writing course.
Each morning will have two parts – the first part will be looking at and analysing poetry. Students will be encouraged to discuss their views of the poems, as well as looking at the various language techniques that the poets employ, the contexts of the poems, and other relevant matters.
The second part of the morning will involve writing poetry and – for those who wish to – sharing what has been written, so that the group can give feedback. This ‘workshopping’ process is favoured by creative writing classes, and will help to improve your writing, and your English – both in giving and receiving feedback.
There will also be two afternoon sessions, one where we go write ‘on location’, and another where we combine art with poetry.

Improve your English by immersing yourself in writing short stories!
This course is run by novelist Jacqui Burgoyne (JM Burgoyne).
Improve your word-recall, fluency, and ability to use English through this prose-fiction writing course.
Each morning will have two parts – the first part will be looking at and analysing prose. Students will be encouraged to discuss their views of pieces of prose fiction. They will think about the techniques that the writers employ, the themes, contexts, and other relevant matters.
The second part of the morning will involve writing exercises designed to practice key prose-writing skills. There will also be the option – for those who wish to – to share what has been written, so that the group can give feedback. This ‘workshopping’ process is favoured by creative writing classes, and will help to improve your writing, and your English – both in giving and receiving feedback.
There will also be two afternoon sessions, one where we go write ‘on location’, and another where we practice writing dialogue, and then film ourselves doing read-throughs of our scripts.

Improve your English by immersing yourself in making a short film!
This two-week course is designed for students with a moderate-to-good level of English.
It is a fun introduction to the basic principles of scriptwriting and filmmaking.
Students will first look at different genres of films and learn about the basic shot types used in filmmaking.
Then, they will write a short script and use their phones or a basic camera and audio-recording equipment to film their piece. If necessary, we will try to find or create props, turn the classroom into a ‘set’, or go out to film ‘on location’ in the city.
Once filming is done, students will then be shown the basic principle of editing a film and supported in editing what they have recorded.
If time permits, we will then watch our short films!
