Two professional references will be required for each applicant. Only complete application forms will be accepted.

Visas & Right to Work in the UK

All candidates will be required to produce documentation to prove that they are eligible to work in the UK. Due to the temporary nature of our summer contracts, we cannot consider any applicants who do not possess the required visa status and/or work permit for the UK.

EU citizens who have previously worked in UK, may be eligible for a Frontier Visa which entitles them to work. If you are unsure of your visa status and working rights in UK, do an online check to confirm your Rights to work in UK.

Criminal Records checks

International Colleagues School of English is committed to safeguarding its students. All staff employed to work with us will be required to undergo appropriate suitability checks, such as DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service, England and Wales), or a police certificate of good conduct

Recruitment Procedure

  • Applications will be reviewed against the job specification. Those who meet all the essential criteria are taken to the next stage of shortlisting.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a face-to-face interview. Video conferencing is acceptable in cases where applicants are not local.
  • Candidates must provide details of two referees, one of which must be the candidate’s most recent employer. For positions at our summer or year-round courses, one of these references should, where possible, be in relation to working with children or young people. In the event that no recent professional references can be sought, an academic or open reference may be considered in exceptional circumstances.
  • The documentation required at interview may include:
    • Proof of identity
    • Original copies of qualification certificates
    • Evidence of completed enhanced DBS check
  • The interviewer(s) will follow a set course of questions for each role. Interviewers may ask additional questions if a candidate’s answer is unclear and additional information is required.
  • The interview(s) will take notes of the answers given.
  • During the interview candidates may be required to present a micro teaching session. (Teachers only).
  • The relevant recruiting manager will check through the candidate’s application form, CV, DBS form and interview responses for any discrepancies. Any discrepancies found will be queried with the applicant.
  • The chosen applicant will be DBS-checked (enhanced disclosure). For all UK-based roles, the International Colleagues School of English will also check the candidate’s eligibility to work in the UK.
  • The successful applicants will be informed in writing of the job offer. A ‘job offer contract’ will be sent out. This will contain important information such as start date, salary, training dates etc, a copy of the company handbook and a copy of the relevant staff manual if appropriate.
  • Any job offer is subject to all documentation and references requested being provided, and the original ID documents being seen, at or prior to induction.

EFL teacher job description

Teacher timetables depend on the student bookings.

Responsibilities

  • outline and prepare activities, lesson plans and scheme of work
  • maintain excellent class administration including lesson preparation, class registration and lesson recordkeeping
  • organize learning materials and resources to create an interactive and creative approach to learning
  • complete on a daily basis the record of work
  • encourage active learning based on ESL strategies
  • create a safe and comfortable classroom environment
  • report to the school’s directors if there is any cause of concern regarding any students in the classroom
  • help students to work independently and in groups
  • promote and encourage students to speak in English
  • monitor, observe and record students’ progress
  • assist with the welcome, induction and testing of students on their first morning
  • participate in staff meetings and training sessions

Education, Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in English and Education
  • TEFL Certification
  • CELTA
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a teaching role

Salary (July – August only) CELTA qualified: £15.00 to £20 per hour, dependent on experience. DELTA qualified: £20 to 25 per hour, dependent on experience. We cannot offer work permits to candidates who are not eligible to work in the United Kingdom.
